Officer-Involved Shooting / Suspicious Death Investigation - 600 Block Lisgar Avenue

Two persons previously charged with first degree murder are now also facing charges of indecently interfering with and offering an indignity to human remains.

On March 19 and 20, 2024, respectively, investigators attended to a correctional facility in Saskatoon and a correctional facility in Prince Albert to effect the arrests of a 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman; they were incarcerated on related charges of first degree murder at the time of their arrests. Both were additionally charged under Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code for indecently interfering with and offering an indignity to human remains.

Investigators with the Major Crime Section have arrested and charged a second person in relation to Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2024.

Yesterday evening, February 7, 2024, police effected the arrest of a 34-year-old Saskatoon man and charged him with first-degree murder; he made his first appearance in court this morning and was remanded into custody.

Following an autopsy, a 25-year-old Alberta man was identified as the victim of homicide; at the request of his family, police will not be releasing the victim’s name at this time.

The suspect and victim are believed to be known to one another.

The UHaul truck investigators were searching for in connection with a homicide in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue was located late yesterday afternoon.

Saskatoon Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a vehicle in connection with the recent homicide investigation in the 600 block of Lisgar Ave.

The 14', 2010, Ford UHaul truck has an Arizona license plate - AE05517.  A photo of the same type of truck is attached.

A suspicious death over the weekend has been deemed a homicide.

On February 3, 2024, police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue for an aggravated assault. There, officers located a deceased male inside the residence. Following an investigation by the SPS Major Crime and Forensic Identification Sections, a 32-year-old woman has been charged with First Degree Murder. (Court Info # 991258001).

The identity of the deceased is pending an autopsy which is scheduled for tomorrow.

This is Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2024. In 2023, Saskatoon recorded 12 homicides, of which charges were laid in nine occurrences.

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating an SPS officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., February 3, 2024, members of the Tactical Support Unit were assisting in the execution of a search warrant in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue related to an aggravated assault investigation involving firearms. During the incident, a SPS member discharged their firearm. One suspect, a 34-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital; he is believed to be in stable condition. Two females were also arrested at the scene. Officers also located a deceased body inside the residence. This death is considered suspicious and unrelated to police actions. The SPS Major Crime Section is investigating.

Traffic restrictions are expected to be in place in the area of Lisgar Avenue for some time. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

Within the criteria set out in The Police Act, 1990, the Saskatoon Police Service has notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team of the incident. Following the notification, SIRT’s Civilian Executive Director has accepted carriage of the investigation. Further details about the officer-involved shooting will be provided by SIRT.
