Update: Arrest - Historical Homicide - Darren Greschuk

The Saskatoon Police Service has made another arrest in connection to the 2006 historical homicide of Darren Greschuk.

On Wednesday January 24, 2024, a 49-year-old man was arrested in Lethbridge Alberta on a warrant related to the homicide. He has since been transferred to Saskatoon and appeared before a Justice of the Peace on Friday January 26, 2024.

The 49-year-old man is charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder. No further arrests are expected in relation to this homicide investigation.

Police have arrested and charged two men in connection with the 2006 historical homicide of Darren Greschuk.

Investigators with the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section have charged a 48-year-old British Columbia man with second degree murder and a 45-year-old Saskatoon man with manslaughter in relation to the 2006 homicide of Darren Greschuk. On July 8, 2006, Greschuk called 9-1-1 after being shot by an unknown suspect while in his own residence. Greschuk was transported to the hospital where he later died on July 23, 2006.

The 48-year-old man was arrested in Penticton, B.C. last week with the assistance of the Penticton RCMP’s General Investigations Section. He was then transported back to Saskatchewan with the assistance of the RCMP Provost Unit. The 45-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Saskatoon by members of Patrol.

Both men appeared in provincial court at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Investigators are now investigating a shooting that took place on July 8th as a homicide. The victim of the shooting, 31-year-old Darren Fredrick Greschuk, has died in hospital as a result of his injury.

Police received a call just after 4:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8th from the victim saying that he had been shot. He reported that he and his wife had been sleeping in their home on Avenue J South, when a man with a gun entered their home and demanded money. His wife managed to escape and hide until police arrived. The injured man was being treated in hospital until his death on July 23rd.

Police are continuing to investigate this case and are asking for assistance from the public. Anyone who may have heard a gunshot, or may have seen something suspicious early in the morning of July 8th, is asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 931-8477.

The Saskatoon Police Service is looking for the public’s assistance following a shooting that took place Saturday, July 8th.

As earlier reported in the media, police received a call just after 4:00 a.m. from a man saying he had been shot. The 31-year-old man reported that he and his wife had been sleeping a male with a gun entered their home and demanded money. His wife managed to escape and hide until officers arrived. The man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. It is believed the suspect escaped the home on foot or on a bicycle.

Since then police have canvassed the area of Avenue J South, but have had no success in finding any witnesses to the shooting. They would like anyone who may have heard a shot, seen anything suspicious, or suspect they may know the suspect in this case to call 975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 931-8477.
