Police Presence - 700 Block Weldon Avenue

Police have concluded their presence at what was an ongoing incident in the 700 block of Weldon Avenue this afternoon.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. today, May 9, 2024, police were called to a residence in the 700 block of Weldon Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance involving an injured woman. The woman was reported to have exited the residence through a window and onto the roof where she was able to gain the attention of a passerby for help.

Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter around the residence while firefighters provided a ladder to assist the injured woman down from the roof where she was then treated by paramedics. Through investigation, officers learned that a possibly armed male suspect may still be in the residence; as a result, members of the Tactical Support Unit, Canine Unit, and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene to assist Patrol. Following several attempts to contact anyone inside and order them out of the residence, police made entry and found the residence to be clear of any persons.

Traffic restrictions that had been in place for the duration of the incident have since been removed. Members of the public are thanked for their accommodation of the closures.

Police are continuing to investigate.

A significant police presence exists in the 700 block of Weldon Avenue as officers are responding to an ongoing incident in the area. Traffic restrictions are in place on Avenue P South between 15th and 16th Streets West, as well as in the 700 block of Weldon Avenue. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
