Community Response Unit

officer on a bike Police officers assigned to the Community Response Unit respond to calls for service on bicycles. The unit currently has 18 members who work 12 hour shifts.

Bike service is provided April through October. An average day includes riding anywhere from 60 to 100 km along Saskatoon's various bike trails, the downtown core, and the Broadway Avenue area. Community Response members handle a wide variety of calls ranging from domestic complaints to traffic accidents. Saskatoon has a number of community events throughout the summer, such as the Jazz Festival, The Children’s Festival, Fringe Festival, FolkFest, and The Ex. Community Response attendance at these events is an effective means of policing and an excellent opportunity to interact with the public.

They are equipped with the latest all weather clothing, which allows for continued riding regardless of weather conditions.
